The school offers the After-School Care Program (ASCP) for all students in need - English Section and French Section of our school. This is to enhance students’ perceptions that they can be successful at school. Children who attend these well-supervised after school programs display better work habits, task persistence, social skills, pro-social behaviors, academic performance, and less aggressive behavior at the end of the school year.
Families who are unable to help their children at home due to their busy work schedule, less proficient in the language (English/Arabic/French), fewer outside resources, and so on, could use this opportunity available at JIS for their children’s success at school.
In addition, parents who have registered their children in school on conditional basis must be enrolled in the ASCP. However, we strongly recommend those parents to enroll their children who are on academic warning or at-risk in failing the grade. Parents who need their children to have extra classes/tutoring could also take the opportunity availed in the ASCP.

HOMEWORK SUPERVISION PROGRAM

Homework Supervision is a quiet study program where students can read or do homework for all subjects under controlled environment. This program provides skilled supervision to help students concentrate and get work done on their own. The teacher is there to encourage good work habits, provide minimal assistance and encourage students to complete their work in a timely manner.

This program is aimed at enhancing test preparedness of students. The specialized courses through specialized teachers shall provide specific skills and training needed for excellence in the respective tests. The challenge program is designed for high achievers who seek extensive exposure in specific subjects.

The homeroom teacher/subject teacher fills up the Referral Form/Discipline Form to the Section Coordinator/Head after working with the child using different approaches in teaching.
ACADEMICS - The teacher may refer to the Subject Coordinator for more assistance. It should be obvious from the evidence provided by the teacher of differentiated instruction with the student. For example, ESL worksheets of the lesson simplified questions for the lesson content, modified homework, and so on.
BEHAVIORAL – The teacher may refer to the Section Coordinator for more assistance. It should be obvious from the evidence provided by the teacher of differentiated strategies used with the student to correct his behavior/attitude.
The Section Coordinator observes the student in class and writes a report confirming the areas of learning/behavioral difficulties, or special needs. The Section Coordinator forwards his/her report to the Academic & Guidance Counselor.
The Academic & Guidance Counselor studies and reviews the case of the student. The Counselor meets with the Senior Management Team to determine and prescribe intervention/s.
The Counselor meets the student’s parents and informs them about the school’s intervention strategies.
The Counselor forwards the student’s file with the prescribed intervention to the Learning Support Coordinator.
The Learning Support Coordinator studies and draws a plan for the relevant strategy to be used and assigns the student to a Support Staff with study materials. The Support Coordinator submits a monthly report on the student to the Counselor.

AP is recognized as a highly desirable academic credential around the globe. Universities in over 60 countries outside the United States recognize AP in the admission process. Universities may also recognize AP Exam scores for advanced placement, the opportunity to skip introductory-level courses or award credit or points toward an undergraduate degree.

Course Duration
It is expected that the student will spend 60 to 80 minutes each day on a course; for a minimum of five weeks up to a full calendar year.
Course content (Syllabus)
The course content (syllabus) is generally available both online and in print. Online courses are delivered through the online course management system, WayCool. For courses that are available only in print, the printed course content is a required purchase.
